Handicap: Recurrent cough due to an old, untreated kennel cough disease


Abel's story is quickly told, as we don't know much about his origins. The young male was probably abandoned by his owner. Why? For us there is no reason why an animal is abandoned, left to its own devices. But it seems that Abel is too sweet and too friendly. Maybe he was supposed to be a guard dog and always ran towards people wagging his tail. Or maybe he was supposed to herd a flock of sheep and he didn't understand why he should rush the sheep now. These are just our guesses.

However, we do know that one of Anca's neighbours saw Abel sitting on the side of the road at the village boundary of Stauceni when she drove by there to run errands When she came back, this dog was still sitting in the same place. She stopped and went to him. Wagging his tail, Abel got up and ran towards the woman. His eyes radiated relief. Finally, there was someone. Anca's neighbour felt sorry for the dog. Such a dear boy. She called Anca and told her about Abel. But since Anca was in Trusesti, she couldn't pick up the dog. So she asked her neighbour to take the dog and bring it to her later that evening. The woman agreed.

With Anca, Abel was friendly, calm and easy-going from the very first minute. He really likes to be close to "his" human. Just lying there and watching his human or dozing off is enough for this handsome male. If he receives attention in the form of kind words or an affectionate stroke, Abel is all smiles. You can clearly see how much he enjoys this and would like to receive more of it. Unfortunately, these moments are too short and Abel looks longingly after his human when he leaves his enclosure again. He would love to go with him, Abel would love to leave the shelter by his side.

Abel gets on well with other dogs right from the start. He approaches everyone in a friendly manner and wants to get to know the other person. He is submissive and wants to make friends. Abel is not a daredevil, but when other dogs run around too much and too fast, Abel does not feel comfortable. He tries to avoid the playing dogs. Abel gives way to other dogs.

However, Abel has a handicap. He coughs. Sometimes more, sometimes less and sometimes not at all. Anca consulted various vets after treatment with various antibiotics did not have the desired effect. The vets came to the conclusion that this could be the result of an old, untreated kennel cough. Anca was given tablets for the days when Abel coughs a lot. And these help Abel quite well.

We are looking for people who want to give him closeness, warmth, lots of cuddles and love for the handsome short-furred Abel. Abel doesn't need long walks. Sniffing and exploring the neighbourhood with his human would be a dream come true for Abel. We are looking for people who take Abel as he is and want to give him a loving home. Abel will certainly have a lot to learn. But we can well imagine that Abel will try everything to please his human.

Abel will be completely vaccinated, dewormed, castrated and chipped by the time he embarks on his journey.
