Late in the afternoon, a neighbour of Anca's came to her house and in his arms he held 2 young kittens. He told her that he had seen a sack on the bank of the small river where he lived. At first he thought it was just discarded building rubble, but then the sack moved. A little at first, but then more and more. And finally he heard a bright, frightened-sounding mewing.

Anca's neighbour went on to say that he opened the tied-up sack and saw two pairs of frightened eyes looking at him. It was these 2 kittens he now held in his arms. Both girls.

He asked Anca if she could take the two kittens in, because they were still very young, very sweet and trusting. Of course Anca took the two little velvet paws in. They are now in her foster home.

Update:
Gretchen survived and now lives with Mishu, Anca's male cat. The two like each other very much and so Gretchen has found a home.

It was late afternoon when Anca was on her way home. She wanted to stop at the Dealu Mare car park to see if any animals needed help. And, of course, to put out food for the strays. It had snowed lightly during the night and since the temperatures are dropping more and more, the food is vital for some of the street dogs.

When Anca arrived at the car park, there was no one to be seen. She scattered dry food in various places and walked along the edge of the forest there for a while. Anca knows from experience that abandoned animals often hide in the nearby forest in their first fear or run onto the road in panic.

Nothing conspicuous. But then Anca heard something that made her go further into the forest. And there she saw him, an older, large dog, probably waiting there for his owner. Moshu, as Anca would later call the male dog, had probably been waiting here for some time, because he had been scraping away the snow around him. Moshu's look was very sad. He ducked down and his tail did not move. Anca was not sure if the dog wanted to go with her. She would not force him.

But after a short while Moshu wanted to go with Anca and also jumped into the car. From the looks of it, Moshu was a chain dog. His fur was clearly very short on his neck, where his collar sat. Moshu also had bald patches on his body.

Moshu was very introverted during his first days with Anca. He hardly showed any movement. Moshu just sat there. Maybe he was grieving or he just didn't understand why he had lost his "home". Anca tried hard to win Moshu's trust and to make his eyes shine. She succeeded after a few days. Now Moshu lives in the "Safe Place" in the free run and gets along well there.

Update:
It turned out that Moshu has several tumours on his body and it would not be advisable to have them removed. Moshu is too old for several operations. So Anca adopted the old dog grandpa. He feels comfortable with her, gets good food, has dog friends around him and can enjoy his remaining time.

Unfortunately, it was not to last long. The cancer on and in Moshu grew quickly. For 8 months Moshu was allowed to experience what love, security and attention means. Anca was with him when Moshu started his last journey and went over the Rainbow Bridge.

Dear grandpa Moshu, we will miss you with your bright eyes and your deep voice.

One evening at the beginning of December, Leona's mother went out into the garden to check on things before closing up. Suddenly she heard whining noises and cries for help. She tried to find out where these puppy cries were coming from. She guessed the direction but saw nothing in the darkness.

She quickly ran back into the house and called for her daughter and got a torch. She told Leona what she had just heard and set off to search.
There is a dumpster not far from the property. The cries for help came from here, from inside the dumpster. They opened it and saw a small, young puppy lying on a rubbish bag. Quickly Leona took the puppy out of there. It was a girl. The puppy was shivering with cold and fear. Leona put the little furry nose under her jacket and brought it home.

The puppy girl was very lucky that Leona's mother heard the cries and immediately started a search. Now the little girl can stay with Leona's family for the time being.

Update:
Perla's luck held out. People fell in love with the sweet dog girl and adopted her.

At the end of November, an elderly man came and knocked on Aca's front door. She wasn't home yet, so he left. He tried to find Anca a second time in early December and this time he was lucky.

The older man had 2 bitches. One of them had had puppies, which he could place well in his neighbourhood. Now he wanted to have this bitch spayed and asked Anca if she could help him.

Actually, however, the older man was interested in his second bitch. He would soon give up his house and move into a flat in another city. As the flat is rather small, he would not be able to take 2 dogs with him. He would very much like Anca to take in the little dog and find her a nice home.

The next morning, Anca visited the elderly man. The little dog lived on a chain and had "only" a wooden board, placed at an angle, against a fence and some straw. This was her shelter. The little dog was so friendly, so affectionate and cuddly. Anca couldn't say no and took the little bitch to live with her.

A happy ending for Abby !!!

Abby once had an owner.
Unfortunately, he passed away and since then Abby has been living on the street. But Abby's story begins many years earlier.

The year 2016 - Anca saw Abby for the first time on the way to Trusesti. The dog was standing on the side of the road and was heavily pregnant. But before Anca could stop, Abby was gone. A few days passed and Anca looked for Abby, asked in the small village if Abby had an owner.

And yes, Abby did have an owner. The dog lived quite well there. She had a shelter and some food from time to time. Her owner was poor and gave her as much as he could. However, Abby kept getting pregnant and her puppies always died after a few weeks from puppy disease.

Anca approached Abby's owner to have Abby spayed so that the puppies would stop suffering. Abby's owner was grateful because he could never afford to have her spayed. Anca continued to look after Abby. Every day Anca drove to Abby's home beforehand and every day Abby received her portion of wet food and occasionally a tablet against worms, a spot-on against vermin. Abby was always very happy when she saw Anca.

Today was the day.
Today finally ... Anca managed to secure the bitch.
Today finally ... she came to Anca and let herself be touched and opened up to her.

Anca saw the dog for the first time about a month ago. She was standing on the side of the road at the border of the village of Trusesti. When Anca stopped, the dog quickly ran away. Anca left some dry food behind and went to work. Every day, Anca stopped at the same spot and scattered food.

Today is transport day again.
A few animals are lucky enough to leave Romania today and travel to their families.

Anca is more than full at the moment. She can't take in any more animals because she has absolutely no more space. Neither at the "Safe Place" nor at her foster homes. Therefore, she is more than happy that a few animals can travel and thus places become free.

Just before the van arrived at Anca's, she got a call from one of the drivers. He told her that they had found a little dog. She was wandering among a crowd of people at a bus stop, begging at people. It was possible that the little dog had been abandoned there and was now looking for her owner. The driver went on to say that they had asked the passers-by and waiting people if the dog belonged to anyone, but no one knew anything. So they took the little dog with them.

And now the driver asked if Anca could take the little dog. And of course. The little dog needs a place to stay. Anca estimates the little bitch to be about 1 year old. Soon we will introduce her and hope that someone will fall in love with her and want to adopt her.

Update:
Paula was quickly offered a foster home and from there she found her people.

On this day, Anca received another call for help.
It came from a woman who was afraid for her dog's puppies. Her husband threatened to abandon the puppies in the forest. Anca agreed to take in the puppies if in return the mother dog would be spayed. The woman agreed. So they arranged a pick-up date in the afternoon.

When Anca arrived at the family's home, she was able to take 4 puppies, the mama dog to be spayed and another cat, who also belongs to the family, also to be spayed.

But the lady had another request. She asked Anca if she could show her something. The two women went to the neighbour's property. There Anca saw a small dog. She was tied to a chain about 1.5 m short. No hut. No shelter. Nothing. She was defenceless against the weather conditions. An old pot stood there, without contents. And the bitch was emaciated. Ribs and hip bones were clearly protruding. The bitch pressed herself to the ground. Her tail underneath her and whimpered softly. It was terribly painful for Anca to see this bitch like this.

Anca looked at the lady in disbelief. And without thinking any further, Anca cut the chain and took the trembling little dog in her arms. The lady told Anca that the owner had moved away and left the dog behind. Every now and then she gave the dog something to eat. Anca didn't want to say anything more about it. She couldn't say anything more about it, because otherwise she would have exploded, she was so angry.

Anca packed all 7 animals into her car, made an appointment to pick up the mummy dog and the cat from the castration and drove home.

The chain bitch was very calm in her box and whenever Anca spoke softly to her, you could hear her tail tapping on the wall of the box.

Update:
A family fell in love with Molda and adopted her. Now the lovely female lives in Germany.

Early in the morning, Anca was on her way to her workplace, Trusesti High School. It was still dark. The streets were wet from the night's rain.

In the headlights, Anca suddenly sees something lying in the middle of the road. She drove slowly past it. It was a cat that had probably been hit by a car while crossing the country road and died. In her mind, Anca said "sorry" to the cat and said goodbye. She looked in the rear-view mirror and suddenly saw that the cat got up, took a few short steps and then collapsed again. Now the cat was lying in the middle of the lane. The next car would surely run it over.

Anca slammed on the brakes. Put the car in reverse and backed up quickly. She got out. Yes, the cat was still alive. Blood was coming out of her nose and muzzle. Its fur was wet and dirty and it was very thin. Carefully, Anca picked up the cat and brought it to safety. Now hurry to Trusesti to her vet.

After Anca had finished her lessons, she picked up the accident cat from her vet and took it home. Her vet did everything to help the cat. Nothing seemed to be broken. Probably the blood was from the impact on the asphalt. Now the cat needs time to recover and recuperate.

We hope so much that she is a fighter and survives all this. Then we will try everything possible to find her a nice home.

Update:
Unfortunately, Mimi had to be put down. It seemed at first that she might make it, but then she started having seizures. We are so sorry. We would have loved to find a home for Minka.

Mid-November - slowly the temperatures are dropping more and more often near the 0 degree mark. And not only at night. Soon the Romanian winter will arrive with all its harshness. A very bad and for many animals deadly season.

Leona, one of Anca's helpers, was on her way home when she saw a dog by a fallow field that wasn't moving. It was just sitting there with its head hanging down. Leona went closer to the dog and spoke to him. Immediately he reacted and looked at her. His tail started to move. Wagging, he came running towards Leona. Joyfully and with shining eyes, Galina, as Leone would later call the young dog, licked her hands. Now it was impossible for Leona not to take the bitch home with her.

For a while, Galina was allowed to stay with Leona, as Anca had absolutely no space left. Soon we will introduce the young, about 8 months old, lovely and friendly bitch and hope that she will soon find a forever home.

Galina found her new home in Germany

Anca received a text message late in the evening from a lady in Botosani. She wrote that she had seen 5 puppies in a house entrance. The puppies were already starting to run around there. Someone had also put some dry dog food there.

Anca wrote back to the lady asking if she could take the puppies until she came to pick them up. The lady agreed and Anca set off for the city limits of Botosani.

5 puppies - 3 girls and 2 boys - aged just 8 weeks approximately. Abandoned in the middle of the night at a house on the outskirts of Botosani. In November, a month when the temperature can be in the single digits at night.

Now the 5 puppies are safe with Anca. First they are in quarantine and soon they will get their first vaccination. We hope that they are strong and will survive.

Update:
Pearl survived and found a wonderful family in England.

Someone told Anca about a dog that kept crossing the main highway. She would run around aimlessly. Back and forth, then stopping again in the middle of the road, looking around, only to run back again. Such were the words Anca heard from this someone. Anca had the place described to her and drove there.

When Anca arrived at the place she had described, she saw a bitch standing in the middle of the road. She did not move. Thank God no car was coming at that moment.

Anca went to the bitch, holding chunks of wet food in her hand. The bitch was thin and so hungry. The dog quickly came to her, ate the wet food and then licked her hands. Anca estimated the dog girl to be around one year.

It was only when Anca was about to put the female dog into a transport box that she saw that someone had cut off half of her tail. The wound was already very infected. Anca went straight to her vet.

Update:
After more than a year, a dream came true for the active Rabea. People fell in love with her and the pretty female could leave Romania.

Anca received a message from a gentleman that morning. He wrote to her that he was working at the village border of Trusesti and on his way there he saw a bitch with her 3 puppies. The puppies were still quite young and the mummy bitch was very trusting. He suspected that the little family had been "dumped / disposed of" there.

As Anca was still at home, she could not come to Trusesti so quickly to bring the little family to safety. She asked the gentleman if it would be possible for him to take the little family until she came to pick them up. The man agreed and even brought the bitch and her puppies to his home. There his wife took care of the little dog family until Anca came to pick them up.

Now the mum and her 3 puppies are with Anca at the "Safe Place" and are being fostered.

Update:
Mum Milva very quickly found a family who adopted her. Two of her puppies were also allowed to leave for England. Only little Randu was left behind alone. No one saw him. No one fell in love with the sweet little boy. A whole year had to pass before Randu was offered a foster home and was allowed to leave in February 2023.

A student from Anca was on her way home when she found a small dog at the village border of Trusesti. This dog was lying curled up in the grass by the side of the road. She was so thin and weak, she hardly moved. The girl had some bread left over from her breakfast and gave it to the dog. But she just doesn't want to eat.

Normally, starving dogs eat food greedily, but with this dog it was worrying that she refused the piece of bread. The student called Anca and told her about the dog. Anca was still at school and had lessons. She asked the student with the dog to go to her vet, who had his practice not far from where the dog was found.

It turned out that the little dog had babesiosis. Anca's vet gave her a medicine against it. Soon the dog would feel better. But if Aca's student hadn't found the dog, she would have died soon. The dog would not have survived much longer after the outbreak of babesiosis and without treatment.

Update:
Unfortunately, the treatment did not work and the little female had to be put down.

In Botosani, there are several clubs for young people who do voluntary work. One of them is a media/newspaper club called Buzz Media. For a long time, Anca was a very active member there. Even today she is regularly invited to Buzz Media events.

A small group of young people from Buzz Media met after an event to exchange views. A young girl happened to see a small dog sitting close to a parked car. She took the little puppy boy in her arms as he was shaking very badly. Together with their friends, they thought about who they could ask for help.

Of course, Anca immediately came to mind. The young people knew about Anca's passion for helping dogs and cats. Anca could not come to Botosani immediately to pick up the little one. She was still on the road and it would take some time. The finder assured Anca that she would look after the little one until she could come. They all waited together for 2 hours in the cold to hand over the little boy to Anca. They were happy to wait because they were happy to be able to save a dog's life.

This gives Anca great hope that through next generations life will change for the better for dogs and cats.

Update:
Max found a loving home in England.

Early in the morning, Anca was on her way to Trusesti as usual. In the meantime, she received a message from a lady. The woman wrote to her that she had found a small, young kitten. This would sit in the middle of the road and cry. Fortunately, the cars drove past her. Sometimes very close.

Anca asked where the kitten was. Which street. The lady described the way to this street to Anca. But she herself could not wait because she had to go to work. Anca hurried and hoped to reach the kitten in time, before a cat hater ran over the little furry nose.

Thank God, the kitten was still alive and still squatting in the middle of the road, not moving an inch. Anca rushed to the kitten, addressed it. In a flash, the little furry nose turned towards Anca and ran screaming towards her. Maze, as Anca would later call the little one, was so thin, but when she was in Anca's arms, Maze no longer screamed. She snuggled against Anca's chest and purred.

Update:
Although Maze's coat colour is black and black cats have a hard time finding a family abroad, a family from Germany fell in love and adopted Maze.

22. October was a very emotional, intense day for Anca.
Like every day, Anca was out and about in and around Trusesti, helping and feeding street dogs. Late in the afternoon, she was on her way home, but stopped again at the car park near Dealu Mare to see if there was an animal that needed help.

When Anca got to the car park, she didn't see a dog. But she did notice a white sack tied to a bush about a metre above the ground. It was clear to Anca at that moment, there were puppies in the sack.

These moments are hell. The blood pressure shoots up. You get hot and cold in turns. You don't know what's coming. Are the puppies still alive? Can she still help them?

Anca struggles to get the sack off the bush. When she managed and was able to open the sack, she saw 6 newborn puppies. The puppies were only a few hours old. The umbilical cord was only partially dried.

On this day, Nicu, a young man and foster carer of Anca, came home from his work and surprisingly found a puppy girl in his garden.
How the little dog got there was not quite clear to Nicu at first. The garden gate was locked. Someone must have put it over his fence into his garden. There was really no other way.

The little puppy was very trusting and very hungry. Nicu estimates the little girl to be about 10 weeks old. The little girl was allowed to stay with Nicu for the first few days until Anca could pick her up from him. Now the little girl is being nursed and soon she will get her first vaccination.

Update:
Julieta found a family in England.

Botosani, a park in the middle of the city. A lady was walking in this park when she noticed a young puppy. He was sitting under a bench. Alone. Far and wide, no one to whom this little pelt could belong. No collar or harness.

The lady sat down by the little puppy and stroked it. It was a little girl. Her look, so lost and sad. She felt sorry for the little puppy girl, only what could she do. Then she remembered Ioana, an acquaintance of her family and Anca's helper. She called Ioana and asked for help for the little dog.

Now the little one is with Anca in the "Safe Place" and will soon get her first vaccination.

Update:
Vroni was lucky and a family fell in love with her. Soon she was able to join them in England.

That day in the afternoon, Anca was already at home because she had to do paperwork. Then she answered e-mails and enquiries about her dogs. On Facebook, she read how a lady was looking for the owner of a little dog. This little dog was found in a pedestrian zone in Botosani centre. Anca watched the call. No one came forward.

Then her mobile phone rang and on the line was the woman who had started the appeal on Facebook. She asked Anca for help for the little dog who was sitting there so lost in the pedestrian zone. The lady suspected that someone had left the little pelt-nose there.

Actually, Anca has no more room in her "Safe Place".
Actually, she couldn't take in any more dogs.
But she couldn't bring herself to take the little dog in either, to refuse to help her. The lady promised to take care of the dog until Anca came to pick her up.

Now Tinka, as the dog is now called, is with Anca and soon we will try to find loving people for her who will never abandon her again.

Update:
Tinka was quickly offered for adoption by a lovely lady from England, so it didn't take long before Tinka was allowed to travel to her new home.

Anca arrived at her workplace, Trusesti High School, that morning to find a small male cat in the courtyard. The little velvet paw was very thin and she estimated him to be about 3.5 months old. The little one was crying so much. He was hungry and felt so alone.

Since Anca still had some time before her school lessons started, she quickly drove to Cristina's and brought her the little black cat. There he first got something to eat and then he got to know the other animals in the foster home. Cats and dogs. And the little boy was so happy not to be alone anymore :-)

Update:
Despite the fact that the little cat is black, a family fell in love with the sweet velvet paw and adopted him.

A rest area between Botosani and Trusesti is unfortunately used again and again by the locals as a final destination for their abandoned or unwanted pets. Anca has often found dogs and cats abandoned there. Simply left to their own devices. And those who did this didn't care at all what would become of their animals. Often it happens that the animals run in panic on the highway and are run over there, because hardly anyone brakes for an animal.

Ioana, one of Anca's helpers, was on her way home from Suceava and quickly drove past this rest area to check whether an animal needed help.

Sure enough, there was a dog standing at the curb, waiting. Waiting for its owner to come back and take it away. Ioana called the dog to her and Mishu, as she would later call him, was so happy and so pleased about it. Someone was there. Someone was taking him home again.

Mishu's fur was so dirty and matted, so many ticks were on his body. Only when Ioana patted him down did she realize how thin the dog was.

Now Mishu is with Anca in the "Safe Place" and is being fed up.

Update:
Mishu was lucky and a family fell in love with him. He was allowed to move to Germany.

One emergency after the other :-(

Cristi is only 4.5 months young and already had to endure hellish pain. The young cat had a collision with a car and survived only barely. But his pelvis broke in the collision.

Cristi was found by an animal-loving person. It was by chance and by a roundabout way Cristi came into Aca's care and to Cristina's foster home.

Cristi was presented to two vets. The first one wanted to put the little cat to sleep immediately and the second one saw in the X-ray pictures a possibility to straighten Cristi's pelvis with wire and to reconstruct it partly. A difficult operation, but Aca's vet wanted to try it. We would also like to give Cristi this chance, because as small and young as Cristi is, his fighting spirit and will to live is so strong.

Update:
Cristi is a fighter and a ray of sunshine. He survived the operation and is coping very well with his handicap. And he was lucky enough to find a great family in Germany to travel to. All the best little clown. :-)

Cristina searched the immediate vicinity of her house/property. She heard strange noises and didn't really know who or what was causing them. She couldn't figure out where it was coming from, because at some point these noises had stopped.

Instead, Cristina found this ... a wire trap for animals.
Usually these traps are set by hunters or even farmers to "teach dogs/cats a lesson".

"Dogs/cats "steal" chickens or their eggs and have to be punished for it so they don't do it anymore." Thus the statement from a farmer. But that there is a vital reason why dogs/cats "steal" chickens is pure, painful hunger.

Animals that get caught in such a wire trap with their paw or even leg suffer hellish pain. The wire tightens more and more, cuts into the flesh, cuts off the blood supply. If the wire is not removed in time, the affected part of the body dies. An infection threatens and possibly the death of the animal. But in the meantime, the animal suffers terrible pain. The dog or cat can no longer walk properly, can no longer provide itself with food, is at the mercy of stronger conspecifics on the street.

And exactly THAT is the purpose of the person who lays these traps.
A lesson/punishment until death.

Anca received a call from an acquaintance. She told Anca that a man in her neighbourhood had several dogs and often beat and kicked them. Now she had heard that this neighbour wanted to abandon a young dog because its injury would not heal. She followed this man and was able to prevent the dog from being dumped in a bag in a wooded area. Now she had the young dog with her and asked Anca for help for Mikey.

Anca took Mikey to her home and later presented him to her vet. Mikey was probably kicked several times and this when he was much younger than now. These kicks have broken his left hind leg. This leg is stiff and it shows that there is hardly any muscle on this leg. The little one cannot use this leg and the paw keeps dragging on the ground.

Anca heard from an acquaintance that his neighbour wanted to have her dog castrated. However, the lady was a bit older, didn't have a car and the nearest vet would be a 30-minute drive away. So it would not be possible for the old lady to have her bitch castrated. Anca got the phone number to offer her help to the old lady.

A few days later, Anca visited the old lady and found a very loving and affectionate little dog. Anca learned that the dog slept outside. She had no hut, just an old dirty cardboard on which she lay. Soon winter would come, often with temperatures as low as minus 20°C or even minus 25°C at night, and the little dog would only have this old, skinny, dirty cardboard.

Anca took the dog in her arms. The little dog enjoyed this very much and snuggled up to Anca, gave her kisses. Anca found it so hard, but what could she do. How could she help the little dog? The old lady noticed this and told Anca that she could take the dog. Actually, she doesn't want a dog at all.

Update:
Mariana found a very loving family in Germany and was soon able to leave Romania.

Some children from the orphanage in Trusesti found a little puppy girl when they were playing behind the grounds of the home. They quickly realised that something was wrong with the puppy. They sought advice from an older child who also lived at the orphanage. Anca was called to tell them about the puppy.

As Anca was travelling in Trusesti, she went to the orphanage and looked at the little puppy girl. The puppy was limp, hardly moving, not drinking, not eating. Externally, there was nothing that she could have. Only the gums were very pale. So the little one probably had an infection, but from what? Anca took the puppy girl with her and went straight to her vet.

From the looks of it, it could be that the little one had babesiosis. She was given medication by Anca's vet and now we have to wait and see if the medication works.

We are keeping our fingers crossed for the puppy girl.
Struggles ...

Update:
Sorina fought and won her battle for survival.
And she was adopted by a loving family.

At the beginning of October, Anca received a call from a young woman. She told her that she had taken in a bitch from the street a few weeks ago. However, it turned out that this bitch was pregnant and gave birth to 4 puppies. Now the puppies were already a few weeks old. The family would like to keep one puppy and of course the mummy bitch, but to keep more dogs they simply lacked the financial means. The puppies would be lively, healthy, very people-oriented and affectionate. Anca agreed to come and see the dog family as soon as she could find the time.

The following day, Anca visited the family in their home. Yes, it is true that the family lived in very humble and poor conditions, but the puppies, as well as the mama dog, were in good health and physical condition. So the two women found a compromise. The family would continue to take care of the puppies until they were old enough to live without their mother and move in with Anca in her "safe place". And they would have to agree that the mama dog would then be castrated. They would also have to agree that the puppy they wanted to keep would also be castrated later. The woman agreed to everything and was very happy that "her" puppies would be in good hands.

Update:
All 4 puppies were lucky and families fell in love with them. One by one, they were able to leave Romania and move in with their people.

On the same day that Anca had freed the small, delicate dog from the heavy chain (report is one post down), someone told her that an old lady lived in a small village near Trusesti. This old lady had a chained dog that she could no longer take care of. The neighbours would throw the dog something to eat from time to time.

Anca visited the old lady and found out that the dog had been living with her for a very, very long time. She did not know how long or how old the dog was. She only knew that the dog had lived on a chain all her life. But now she would no longer be able to take care of the female dog.

Anca looked at the female dog. She was in a very bad physical condition. Mange, covered in vermin, bald patches all over her body and she had a problem with one eye. It looks like the nictitating membrane or the 3rd eyelid has "slipped". Anca would have to go to her vet to find out more. But the dog was very sweet and got along well with her fellow dogs. Anca couldn't bring herself to take the dog with her, even though she didn't have any space left in her "safe place". But the dog could not stay there with the old lady. So the older Schnauzer-mix lady moved in with Anca, where she is being cared for and given medication against mange and parasites.

Ozita also found loving people in England and was able to leave Romania.

Cristina, a helper and foster carer of Anca, was on her way home from shopping. Just before she arrived at her house, she heard cries for help from a young cat. They were shrill, painful cries. Cristina rushed home, grabbed a carrier and went in search of the kitten in distress.

Quickly she found it. A kitten tried to climb over a wire fence, slipped and an iron rod bored into her flesh. Cristina tried everything to help the kitten. She gently tried to push it over the iron bar. But this caused the kitten quite a lot of pain, so that it clawed at Cristina's hand. It clawed very hard. Unfortunately, it had to be done, there was no other way to help the kitten out of its misery.

And indeed, Cristina managed it. Even though she was hurt quite badly by the kitten on her hands, Cristina endured it and persevered. She quickly took the kitten to Anca's vet so that he could continue to help the little furry thing. We hope and keep our fingers crossed that the kitten will survive.

It found a loving family in Romania in Cristina's neighbourhood.

At the end of September, Anca visited a lady who had agreed to take in a dog family and look after them until the puppies had all their vaccinations and could move in with Anca at the "Safe Place".

On the way to this lady, Anca saw a dog running along the country road. Anca stopped to offer her something to eat. But the dog kept her distance. So Anca drove on, but left food there. Anca told the lady this and asked her if she knew the dog. Yes, she knew her and the lady also said that the bitch was pregnant.

When Anca was driving home, she saw this bitch a second time. And again she stopped, because she wanted to see if the female dog was really pregnant and if not, to catch her and have her castrated. Anca called the female dog to her and this time the bitch came too and even ate out of Anca's hand. No more shyness and no more cautious behaviour. So Anca took the bitch with her and presented her to her vet that very day. He also said that the female dog was not pregnant and castrated her.

The female dog was allowed to stay with Anca for a short recovery period and then Anca wanted to take her back to the country road. That was the plan. However, the bitch proved to be so sweet and affectionate during these days that Anca did not have the heart to bring her back.

The female dog stayed and got her vaccination and soon we will be looking for a home for this lovely dog.

Two days earlier, Anca came to her first feeding stop, the rest area at the grove near Drislea.

At first it looked as if this time there would be no abandoned animal waiting here for its owner to pick it up again. But as Anca was scattering food, she saw something brown in the bushes. It was a dog, but it seemed very scared. When Anca went closer, it disappeared deeper into the bushes. Anca looked and looked, but nothing. She had no choice but to go back and try again the next day.

The next day, the same rest area, the same brown dog and he disappeared again. Anca had no chance of catching him. She left food there and hoped for the next day.

The next day, Anca saw that brown dog in the bushes again, but also a little puppy sitting in front of it on the curb waiting. It was a girl and she was overjoyed that someone was finally coming to pick her up. The brown dog observed this in the bushes and came out. Now he dared to come to Anca and she could take both puppies with her.

The brown puppy boy was allowed to move in with a family friend of Anca.

And again, a small dog was simply abandoned at a rest area. Without giving any thought to how a small dog would survive on the road. And then also at a rest area on the through road from Botosani to Trusesti. There, cars drive at high speed and hardly anyone shows any consideration for dogs that just run out onto the road in panic because their owner left them there.

Anca was on her way home when she stopped at this car park to see if an animal needed help. Anca also wanted to put out some new dry food for the strays that come here from time to time to fill their stomachs.

Buby, as Anca will later call the little male, was soooo hungry. He was skinny and had probably had nothing or very little to eat for a few days. Buby greedily took the wet food that Anca offered him and even tried to eat her fingers. That's how hungry he was. He probably thought there was more delicious wet food ;-)

Buby let himself be picked up without any problems, so that Anca could bring him safely into her car. When she arrived home, Buby was given a large portion of food.

Buby had recovered very well and found his people in Germany at the end of 2021

One day before, Anca met Snowy for the first time. The pretty, white, small male dog was abandoned at the rest area between Trusesti and Botosani. Anca had set up a feeding point there, as street dogs also come there from time to time to fill their stomachs.

Unfortunately, Snowy was still so scared that day that Anca couldn't get close enough to him to touch him and grab him to bring him to safety. The male dog kept jumping back a few steps when Anca approached him. Even wet food was not enough to gain his trust this time. Anca had no choice but to go home. There was nothing she could do that day but leave Snowy there and hope that Sbowy would not get run over.

The very next day, Anca drove to that rest area before she did anything else. Snowy was waiting for his owner at the rest area. He was sitting in the same place as the day before. When Anca got out, Snowy ran towards her. He jumped happily in front of Anca and when she knelt down, the little male came to her and let her pet him and then take him in her arms. Anca was so relieved. Now she can take Snowy to safety and soon look for a home for the dear little handsome boy.

Snowy found a very loving family in Germany and was able to leave Romania in early 2022.

Sadness - helplessness - anger - pain

It's awful to see that maybe you arrived just a few minutes too late to save a life. Just a few minutes :-(

Every day Anca sees roadside animals run over. Foxes, storks, cats, dogs and many small animals. Each time the sting in the stomach and in the heart. But it is especially painful when a dog or cat is run over shortly beforehand at the rest stops that Anca drives to every day to see if an animal needs help.

In this case, it was a small dog that probably tried to run after the car from which it had been thrown. Full of panic and headless, she ran onto the road and was hit by a car.

Anca had an appointment that day at one of her foster homes to check the health of the foster dogs. Everything was in perfect order. The little fur-bunnies were doing well.

As she was walking to her car, she was approached by a lady. She was a neighbour of the foster home and was waiting for Anca. The lady pointed to a fenced area. A bitch would have settled there with her offspring. The bitch as well as her puppies were very shy. The lady would like to help the dogs, but did not know how.

Anca went to the compound and looked at the dog family. The mum immediately ran away and watched from a safe distance what was going on. The puppies were very scared. They could not even be lured with tasty wet food, let alone Anca coming closer to the young dogs. Only when Anca left the area did they come and get the chunks of food. Anca estimated the pelt-noses to be about 5 or 6 months old. It was impossible to find out how many there were.

The only thing that could be done was for the lady to try to gain the trust of the mama dog so that she could be caught and castrated. Possibly even her offspring if the family were still living at this compound in 2 or 3 months.

Anca will stay in contact with the lady. It might be possible to prevent further offspring.
We will try.

Update:
Only a few days later, the mother dog and her offspring had disappeared. She probably felt harassed and looked for a quieter place. Unfortunately, Anca couldn't do anything about it.

It was already late in the evening when Aca's mobile phone rang. Maria, one of her helpers, was on the line. She told Anca that she had just been out with friends and had seen a very, very skinny dog. This dog was running along the country road in the direction of Anca's home. Maria asked Anca if it was possible for her to come out, because they would be standing in front of it waiting for the bitch. Perhaps they would succeed in securing the bitch. Of course, Anca rushed to the front door, armed with a can of wet food.

And when Anca came out, she already saw Maria's boyfriend trying to get to the bitch. The dog was standing at least 1.5 m in the street. Again and again cars drove by very close. One more step towards the middle of the road could be the dog's death sentence. Anca slowly approached the situation and handed Maria's boyfriend the can of wet food. He kept throwing some to the bitch, hoping that the bitch would come closer to him and away from the roadway.

A few minutes passed. Everyone involved held their breath, hoping and fearing for the bitch that it would work. And there, ... Maria's friend was able to grab Bruna, which was later given to the dog, and pull her off the road. A heroic rescue by Maria's friend succeeded. :-)

It turned out that Bruna was an older bitch, very skinny and with very sad eyes. That was all that could be seen during the night. Bruna was given a solitary place in the garage for the night, with fresh water and a full bowl of food.

The next morning we saw who Bruna really was. She was a very, very sweet and cuddly dog who had been unable to find food for a long, long time. Her fur was dirty and dull and full of vermin. She was of course treated for these parasites and Anca took her to her "safe place". Bruna willingly went with her wagging her tail. Now Bruna has to get her strength back. We will report how dear Bruna is doing.

Update:
Bruna has regained her strength and gained a lot of weight. And she was lucky, a family fell in love with the lovely, cuddly Bruna. It didn't take long and she could travel to her new people.

Again and again there were still very warm days in August. Anca was on her way home and wanted to stop quickly at her last feeding point to spread food and fill up the water containers.

As she pulled into the car park, she could already see that there were puppies standing or sitting on the edge at the exit. As she slowly drove closer, a few were already running towards the car. The little furry ones were in mortal danger here at the side of the road. They could quickly run onto the road and be run over.

Anca stopped. The little ones came rushing towards her and barked happily at her. Next to the 5 very small puppies was a cardboard box. Probably someone had abandoned the puppies in the box. They were much too small to survive here. Anca quickly packed up the 5 tiny puppies, filled up the water containers, gave them food and off they went home.

When they arrived home, the 5 little ones were first given plenty of fresh water and lots of good food to build them up. The thirst of the 5 tiny ones was enormous. We hope that all 5 furry noses are strong enough to think.

3 puppies have made it. Floyd, Filipo and Fancy have found happiness with loving families and could leave Romania.

There was a lot on Anca's "to do" list that day.
Not only her daily feeding tour in and around Trusesti, but also picking up dogs and cats from their owners and taking them to her vet to be castrated.

It was already late afternoon, almost evening, when Anca actually wanted to go home. But there was still a feeding point open that she had not yet visited that day. Before taking Ioana, her helper, home, she quickly drove to this resting place to check the situation. And, what luck for a furry nose. Thank God that Anca was still there.

A lovely trusting middle-aged dog had been left there by someone, simply abandoned, just before Anca arrived at the rest area. The dog was so skinny and her fur was so badly dirty and matted. Coffe, as she was later called, was sooo hungry. She must have had little or no food for many, many days. Ioana had no problem picking Coffe up and putting her in Aca's car. Now Coffe was safe.

Coffe was lucky that Anca drove to this rest area after all. And her luck was to last. After only a short time, a couple in Germany became aware of Coffe and adopted the lovely dog. Coffe's HappyEnd.

Coffe, now called Cosy, has a wonderful family who loves her very much. Now this lovely female has found heaven on earth. We wish you, Cosy, and your family a long, fulfilled life together.

One morning in August, Anca was on her way to the vet when she was approached by a man who works in street cleaning. He told her about a female dog and her 2 puppies that could be found at the village border. Whenever he passed by there, he would feed the little family with milk and some leftover food. The bitch was so sweet and so were her puppies, but they were all so skinny. The man told Anca that a farmer lived there who had chickens and that they ran around freely. This farmer threatened to kill the bitch and her puppies if he missed even one chicken.

The street cleaner asked Anca to help this female and her two puppies, as he believes that the farmer is only giving the reason "stealing chicken" to get rid of the female dog. Anca promised the man that she would go and see the bitch as soon as she could. Actually, she could not take in the bitch with her offspring because she would have no room at all.

But the man did not let up and urged Anca to come with her immediately to help the dog family. When Anca saw the dog with her so skinny puppies ... she couldn't help herself and took all 3 with her. There must be a place for the little family somewhere.

Update:
Wendy and her two daughters Wanda and Whitney made it and were able to leave Romania and travel to their families.

2 young puppies are sitting in the grass by the side of the road. They don't quite realise what has happened to them. Just a moment ago they were with their mother and now?! they are sitting here alone in the grass.

Their owner just took them away from their mother, put them in a box and took them somewhere. Now they are sitting here alone and it is already getting dark.
What do we do now?

Leona, one of Anca's helpers, was on her way home. She lives with her family just outside the village boundary. Suddenly she saw something moving in the grass. She took a closer look and quickly 2 little furry noses came rushing towards her. They were so small, so tiny and both had very big bellies. They were probably full of intestinal parasites/worms.

Leona took the two tiny ones home with her. There they will stay in quarantine for the time being and will be cared for and fed. We hope that the medication will work well for the two puppies and that they will quickly regain their strength.

A small garbage place behind a block of flats in the centre of Trusesti, where everything is thrown away, from building rubble to household waste, old clothes, as well as old furniture, bulky waste. And then also unwanted animals. Yes, unfortunately it happens again and again that young puppies are simply dumped in a container. If the little furbabies are "lucky", they are simply put in a cardboard box next to the rubbish containers and thus still have a chance to run away or be seen.

This is probably what happened to the 3 puppies, only a few weeks old, that Cristina, one of Anca's helpers, found next to the garbage place one morning. Hungry, thirsty, disoriented and full of fear, the 3 puppies were running around, always somehow in circles. They learned from their mum that if they always ran in circles, she would always find them. Only unfortunately their mummy was no longer there, but Cristina was. She took the 3 puppies with her and brought them to safety.

Now the 3 are at a foster home of Anca and are being nursed. We are keeping our fingers crossed that they will make it and that we will soon be able to find families for the 3 sweet little pups.

2 puppies survived and found loving families in Germany.

A female dog needed help.

Cristina, a helper and foster carer of Anca, noticed a newly arrived dog at her workplace at the end of September. She named her Rada. A pretty dog, but fearful of people. Cristina put food down for her and tried to gain her trust. Rada appreciated this and came every day to fill her stomach.

After a few days, Rada remained unseen. Cristina suspected that Rada might have moved on. But then the next day Rada appeared, limping. Her front leg had a deep wound and she could not walk. Rada had probably had a car accident.

Cristina told Anca about Rada and both women decided to help Rada. But since the pretty dog is not very trusting and does not let herself be touched, they called Anca's vet for help. He used a blowpipe to anaesthetise the dog so that Rada could be brought to his practice. There her leg was treated and at the same time she was castrated.

Now Rada lives freely with Cristina on her fenced-in property. She has a dog house, is provided with food and is safe. We are looking for sponsors for this beautiful dog who would like to support her.

Update:
Rada had to wait a whole year. Then she was offered a foster home and could finally leave Romania. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the beautiful Rada that she will soon find her home.

Again 2 puppies simply "thrown away" like household rubbish :-(

How can you bring something like that over your heart? To simply leave two helpless babies to their own devices. Without caring what happens to them. Unimaginable, but unfortunately not uncommon.

Anca learned about the two puppies from an acquaintance whom Anca met by chance in the centre of Trusesti. This acquaintance told Anca that she had seen the two puppies. One of the two would always run up to people who would dump their rubbish there, probably in the hope that the person would take it away. Anca had the location described to her so she could look for the two puppies.

And yes, the two puppies were still there. One also came running straight away and the second puppy followed very quickly. Now both puppies are safe with a foster home of Anca.

Update:
Jasmina was lucky enough to be offered a foster home and thus have the opportunity to find a loving family in Germany. Her brother Julius had to wait a little longer until he was allowed to travel to the same foster home and thus also gets the opportunity to find his mneschen.

Not only Rachel was lucky to be found, but another 4 puppies.

3 puppy girls were found at a garbage place behind a block of flats. All 3 puppies were in a very poor physical condition. Malnourished, full of vermin and their fur was dull and even falling out in a few places.

A woman called Anca and told her about 3 puppies she had just seen at a garbage place under a container. The lady also told her about another puppy that was only a few metres away in a place that is often visited by alcoholics. How Remus, as the little puppy would later be called, had got there, we do not know. Probably an alcoholic had found the little puppy and taken him to this place and left him there to fend for himself.

Thank God, Anca found all 4 puppies and was able to bring them to safety to Cristina, a foster home of hers. There the puppies will be fed up for the time being.

Update:
Romy, Rosalia, and Rodica survived and could travel to their families. Remus also found a great family and could leave Romania.

It's summer holidays in Romania. Although Anca is also on "holiday" as a teacher, her work for and with the animals continues, of course.

Anca received a call from the director of the orphanage, which is located opposite the high school in Trusesti. She told Anca that a girl had found a little puppy. She could not keep the little dog in the home for long and asked if it would be possible for Anca to pick up the puppy girl soon. Anca promised to come as soon as she could.

At the next day, Anca drove to the orphanage, as she also fed the ancestral street dogs that are allowed to live on the orphanage grounds. Rachel, as Anca would later call the puppy girl, was only a few weeks old. The girl told Anca that she had seen the little dog sitting on the side of the road. The puppy was crying very hard. That's what the girl who found Rachel said. The puppy had probably been abandoned there a short time before.

Rachel is now with Cristina, a foster home of Anca, because there is no more room at the "Safe Place". Rachel will soon get her first vaccination and we hope that she will soon find her own family.

A lovely family in Germany adopted her.

It was very warm that day. The sun was burning and the air was very heated. Anca received a call from a lady around noon. This lady knew a helper of Anca and so she got Anca's phone number.

The lady told Anca that she was on her way home and noticed a small puppy in the grass near a small wood. When she looked closer, there lay together under tufts of uprooted grass, another 4 puppies. All were still very young and small. Three of them were panting very heavily. Someone had put the 5 of them there, covered them with grass and left them to their fate. She did not have the heart to leave them there and took them home with her. There she gave them to drink. But now she didn't really know what to do with the little furry ones. Of course Anca promised to come to her as soon as possible to have a look at the puppies.

It turned out that the 5 puppies were all boys and only few weeks old. Much too young to be separated from their mother. Besides, the 5 puppies would not have survived long there by the forest alone without water and food. Since Anca had no room at all in her "safe place", she agreed with the lady that she would take care of the vaccinations and food, but that the 5 boys would have to stay with the lady for the time being. Thank God, the lady agreed.

Update:
All 5 boys have found their families and could leave Romania.

Leona, one of Anca's helpers, was on her way with her friend to a place outside their village. The two young women were talking and full of anticipation and almost overlooked 5 young puppies in the high grass next to the dirt road. But fortunately only almost.

The 5 dog children were squatting pressed together. Completely frightened and totally overwhelmed with the situation, now to be alone, without their mother, in a strange, unknown area. What would happen to them now? Unfortunately, this is not a rarity that young puppies are simply dumped on the dirt road. These 5 puppies are lucky that at the right time, the right people became aware of them.

Leona and her friend "collected" the 5 puppies and walked back to Leona's home. way back to Leona's home. There the 5 fur babies are living at the moment and are being cared for until Anca has room for the 5 puppies in her "safe place".

Anca was feeding "Ion's street dog pack" when she was approached by a woman. She told Anca that she had just passed by the garbage dump, which was about 200 meters away, and had seen 4 puppies. She had already seen them there in the morning when she was on her way to work. And now they would still be there, running around between the containers. Anca finished feeding at this feeding place and together with the woman she walked the short distance to the garbage place.

When the two women got there, there were no puppies to be seen. But Anca looked more closely and found three young puppies crouching frightened in the high grass next to the place. But the lady spoke of 4 puppies. So Anca looked and searched the nearer surroundings. Yes, and indeed. In a gap between the adjacent garages the fourth puppy had taken refuge. When Anca got the little one out of there and took it in her arms, the little one was so happy that he immediately snuggled up to her and one could think he would try to crawl into Anca.

Now all 4 puppies are safe with Cristina, a foster home of Anca. Soon the 4 will get their first vaccination and we hope that all 4 little ones will survive

Marie, Michel, Mattis and Max found happiness and were able to travel to their families one by one.

The Public Shelter is located at the city limits of Botosani. Again and again dogs are abandoned on the country road in front of the shelter, probably in the assumption that the "wardens" of the shelter or the dog catchers will find the dogs and take them to the shelter. But this is a misconception. Nobody looks there for abandoned dogs. Nobody picks up there the frightened animals.Thus for many dogs the death sentence is spoken, because they run from pure panic onto the country road and are killed there.

Anca's mechanic has his garage near the Public Shelter. He loves dogs and always takes in street dogs that he sees on the road in front of the Public Shelter. In the meantime, there are quite a few and he has absolutely no more room. For him it is a horror to drive along there, to see puppies and not being able to help them. But with Dan and Daniela, Anca's mechanic couldn't help himself. Both puppies were standing on the side of the road, pawing in place, their little tails wagging. He stopped and "collected" the two. But he didn't know where to put the two puppies. So he called Anca and asked for help.

Now Dan and Daniela are with Anca in her "Safe Place" and show themselves there as absolute darlings. Friendly, open, cuddly from the first moment.

Daniela made it and got a foster home offer and was able to find her family from there.

Unfortunately, Daniela's brother Dan is not yet so lucky. He is still with Anca in Romania. So far Dan has not been lucky enough to find his own family. So he continues to wait patiently for his humans.

Not a day without a call for help !!!

Anca received a call from a gentleman asking for help for his dog. This man gave shelter to a street bitch and he also wants to keep her. However, the dog gave birth to 10 puppies. Unfortunately, the first puppies already died and he would not know why. Anca agreed to look at the puppies and the mother dog. It was likely that the puppies had a puppy disease and probably any help was too late.

Anca visited the dog family every day and tried everything she could to help the mother and her puppies. Only three puppies survived. These three puppies are allowed to live together with their now neutered mother. Anca will also make sure that these three puppies will be neutered in time.

A village near Trusesti, there is a narrow stream somewhere. A man was riding his bicycle when he crossed a bridge that led over this narrow stream. All of a sudden he heard terrible, anguished cries of a young puppy. He automatically looked into the creek and immediately saw a puppy floating there as well, kicking and screaming wildly with its legs.

He threw the bike aside and ran down the slope to the creek. Fortunately, he was able to grab the little one and pull him out of the water. The puppy was only a few weeks old and as the man was going up to his bike, he saw more puppies squatting in the grass. A total of 5 little furry noses.

All 5 were thin, dehydrated, full of bugs and you could see the fear in their eyes. One puppy had an open wound on his back where lots of fly eggs had already accumulated. More hours in the sun and the puppies would not have seen the next day.

The gentleman is a very animal-loving person and the father of one of Anca's helpers. He felt sorry for the 5 little ones, but he didn't really know how he was able to help the injured puppy in particular. So he called his son and together they drove to Anca, whom they had informed in advance. Once there, all 5 fur noses were bathed, dried off and the injured one was freed from the fly eggs and treated. After that they got delicious puppy food, water and a lot of encouragement, kind words and cuddles.

We hope that the 5 puppies were still found in time and will fight, so that we are able to look for loving families for them soon.

Update:
Davina and Dita won the fight for survival. And they found loving families who fell in love with them and adopted them.

Anca was out early that day to her feeders. Still, before she arrived at her first stop, the rest area between Botosani and Trusesti, she saw a few meters in front of it, a puppy that kept running onto the road running into the roadway and back into the bushes again and again.

Anca stopped in the middle of the roadway and activated the warning lights. She knew it was dangerous to stand here. It would be safer for her to drive to the rest area and then walk back. But she did not want to in any way risk the puppy still being run over.
 
The little one was so scared. When Anca approached him, the puppy screamed and ran back into the bushes. Anca had some delicious wet food and threw some to him. And some more, closer to her. The Little one ate it and came closer so Anca was able

Cristina, a foster of Anca, lives on the outskirts of Trusesti. Her property is surrounded by a medium-high fence.

Cristina was locking up her house to go to her work when she heard soft whining. She turned around and saw a young puppy running toward her.

How did the dog cub, about 6 weeks old, end up on her property?

She took the puppy in her arms and went to the gate. But there was no one around. It is likely that someone put the puppy over the fence onto her property.

Now the puppy boy is allowed to stay with Cristina until he is old enough to look for a loving family. enough to look for a loving family who would like to adopt him.

Update:
Boss, the little puppy boy, made it. A lovely family in Cristina's neighbourhood saw him and adopted little Boss. Soon Anca will visit the "little one" and pick him up for castration.

Near the orphanage of Trusesti there is a larger complex of houses. Behind it, as is often the case, is a small garbage dump with several containers. All sorts of things are dumped and disposed of there. Unfortunately, this also includes unwelcome pets and unwanted offsprings.

A boy, who lives in the orphanage, passed by this garbage place and saw a small puppy sitting there. The puppy was sitting there with its head hanging down, barely moving. The boy went to him, took the puppy in his arms and ran very quickly back to the orphanage. Once there, he showed the puppy to older children, who in turn excitedly called Anca.

A small kitten ran screaming between parked cars. Maybe it lost its family or it was just abandoned. The kitten ran onto the sidewalk and kept screaming. Nobody cared, nobody paid attention to the little desperate ball of fur.

Anca was shopping in Botosani at the time and heard these desperate cries. She searched the nearby area with her eyes and tried to locate this meowing. Suddenly she sees a little kitten running on the main street. Anca caught her breath and ran. She just saw a car passing so close to the kitten that she thought "that's it now"! But the gust of wind pushed the kitten to the side. Anca was able to pick it up in her arms and carry it to safety.

In her car, she examined the little kitten. It was able to tread badly with one paw. Anca felt it but was unable to detect a fracture. She hoped that it was only a sprain and it would be better the next day. And she was right. The next day the little one was able to walk again without any problems and is now being cared for by Anca.

Little Felix found a lovely family in Aca's neighbourhood who gladly took the little cat in.

Anca has been getting more and more calls for help for orphaned kittens lately. This afternoon was no exception.

Cosmin, a young man and helper at Anca, received a box from his neighbor. When he opened it, three pairs of eyes looked at him fearfully. His neighbor told him that he had found these three kittens in a backyard, meowing fearfully. He himself already had several cats and was not able to keep these 3 as well. So he first gave them some dry food and then thought if he was able to ask for help. Then Cosmin came to his mind.

Of course Anca took in the two kittens and the male cat. We hope that the three little velvet paws will make it and survive. They are still very young and actually still need their mommy.

Unfortunately, only one kitten survived. Anca found a loving family in Trusesti for this little fighter, who adopted it.

A block of flats in the center of Trusesti. Under most apartment buildings there are no cellars. However, under some a kind of between room where all kinds of garbage are thrown in. Plastic, glass bottles, metal objects, used clothes, etc. There it is stuffy, damp, dirty, and always dark. No ray of light reaches down there

Cristina, one of Anca's helpers, heard bright whining noises by chance as she walked along with a tenement building. They were soft sounds, but they sounded like small young puppies. Cristina suspected that someone could have been dumping puppies in a space like that. She quickly went home and got a flashlight. In the meantime, she also called Anca and asked for help.

Both women, armed with flashlights, cautiously went into that interstitial space. It was eerie. Complete darkness. Musty smell. Unpleasant dampness. And suddenly, in the flashlight's beam, the first puppy. Then another, and another. And at the very back, the mama dog.

Anca and Cristina searched everything thoroughly and found 9 little puppies. The little ones were at the age of opening their eyes and exploring the closer filthy surroundings. 9 puppies were put in a transport box and of course, they took the mommy dog too.

Now they are all together at a foster home. They will be well taken care of there until there is some free space at Anca's "Safe Place" and they are able to move.

Update:
Unfortunately, only 5 puppies survived, but they found their families and were able to leave Romania. Their mum found a lovely family in Romania who adopted them.

Leona, a helper of Anca, lives in a village near Trusesti and is waiting for her boyfriend who wanted to come to her in the evening. Eventually, he came and brought another surprise. A small dog with her two puppies.

The young man was on the way to his girlfriend. At the village border, he saw that this little dog with her two puppies was crossing a road and came to the side just in time before a car was able to catch her. He called out to the dog, who immediately responded and ran to him. Her two puppies in tow. The young man immediately saw that the dog needed help. Her right eye was inflamed. He looked around, saw a cardboard box, and shortly decided he put all 3 dogs in it and took them with him. And now all three dogs are safe with Leona.

The very next day Anca presented Lilly, as the little dog would now be called, to her vet. First, the inflammation would have to be treated. As it looks, the eye is still there, but whether Lilly is still able to see with it or not, will be seen when the inflammation is healed.

Update:
Lilly and her two puppies found their own families and were able to leave Romania.

Trapo Day. This day is always exciting. Several dogs were lucky enough and a family adopted them or they were offered a foster home. So it was the start of a new phase in their lives.

Anca had already prepared all the lucky ones and was waiting for the transport company that would take over her charges carefully and with good expertise.

But then Anca received a call from one of the drivers. He told her that a man had approached them when they stopped for a short break in a village. This man was carrying six puppies in a bag. This man asked the drivers if they would take the puppies from him, otherwise, he would dispose of them. The puppies were only a few days old, much too young to survive without a mother. Anca replied, that she would take the puppies, but only with their mother.

The van arrived at Anca's house a few hours later. The drivers got out and had a surprise for Anca. In one of the transport cages was the mama dog and her 6 puppies. The owner agreed after a moment's thought, picked up the momma bitch, and handed over all seven dog souls to the drivers of the transport company.

Yes, 7 new furry noses need to be taken care of, but at the same time seven furry noses with a chance for a nice doggy life. We need urgent support. Food, vaccinations, rebuilding preparations, and the mummy will be neutered at some point.  Every donation helps.

All 6 puppies survived and found their own families. Only mum Emily is still looking.
We hope that she too will find the great happiness of a family of her own.

A thin black and white cat lived somewhere in a village between Trusesti and Iasi. His life is not easy. He has to take care of himself. Although he likes us humans very much, he didn't find anyone with whom he could live. So he had to struggle through life - alone.

While searching for food he crossed a busy country road again and again. On the other side, there was a small stop, where there was also a garbage can. Until that day, everything always went well. He waited for a gap and ran fast. Only this time the car was simply faster.

Ioana, a helper of Anca, was on her way home from Iasi. There was a lot of traffic on the country road, so her progress was slow. By pure chance, the traffic stopped at a lay-by. Ioana looked through the side window ... and saw a cat lying on the curb. The cat raised its head a little but otherwise did not move.

Naturally, Ioana stopped and checked on the cat. She saw directly that the cat had an open fracture on its left hind leg. All 4 bone limbs to the paw were completely severed. Moreover, Tom, as Ioana later called the cat, was in shock. It is likely that Tom was hit by a car and got this fracture from the impact. Of course, Ioana took the injured cat with her.

Since it was already very late, Tom could only be presented to Anca's veterinarian in Botosani the next day. After the examination, it was not quite clear whether Tom will keep his paw. But first, the vet wanted to try. The next day the surgery. Tom got two titanium plates inserted to stabilize the fractures. Now we had to wait and try to keep Tom calm so that he would not strain his paw. Anca did her best to give Tom the care and attention he needed now.

A kind-hearted man lives on the outskirts of Trusesti. He does not own much, is content with what he has.

One day in early April, this man was sowing vegetables in his garden when he noticed a dog. This dog was looking for something to eat. It was a mama dog because she had big teats, so she had laid her puppies somewhere.

The kind-hearted man followed the dog to the edge of a field and saw the dog lying down in a deeper hollow. He went closer and there they were - six puppies, only a few days old, with their mommy. The man now went to this place every day and fed the dog with food scraps.

After a few days, the man became worried about the little family because he kept seeing the dog looking for food. He was unable to feed the dog enough, so the dog was forced to leave her little ones alone to find food for themselves.

Through an acquaintance, the man learned about Anca and got her phone number. He called her and asked for help for the seven pups. Of course, Anca was ready to take in the dog with her offspring. Now they are all safe and the dog only needs to take care of her puppies. Because food is now sufficiently available for them.

Unfortunately, only 2 puppies survived. Greta and Gino. Both found happiness and were adopted by lovely people. Their mum Greya also found her family and was able to leave Romania.

The village of Buhaceni is not far from Trusesti. It is common in rural areas that relatively short distances are undertaken on foot. Thus, a young woman, a student of Anca, was on her way home from Trusesti to her village.

Next to the road, the young woman saw a dog crouched down. Approaching, she saw that this dog was incredibly thin. The vertebral bones stood out clearly. Even when she was almost next to him, this dog did not move.  The student already thought that he was dead, but then this dog slightly lifted his head.

The young woman addressed him. His look was so hopeless, so sad. This dog must have been starving for a very long time because he resembled a skeleton. Ribs and hip bones stood out so clearly. And he had an infectious wound on his thigh. This probably stemmed from a bite. There were also clear traces of a much too tight-fitting collar on his neck. The small male dog was a chain dog, which probably had no more strength to do his job due to starvation and was therefore abandoned or driven away. The young woman took the little male and informed Anca and asked for help for him.

A box in the middle of the forest ...

Closed ...

No one far and wide. No house. Nothing.

Nobody hears the whimpering. The crying. The scratching in the cardboard box.

Leona, a young woman, and Anca's helper were walking through a forest with her boyfriend. Engrossed in conversation, enjoying the togetherness. But then Leona sees something bright standing in the forest far away. She tried to see from a distance what it could be, but this something was just too far away for that. So she and her friend walked across the forest to this bright part, which then turned out to be a cardboard box. They hear the soft crying inside the box. Leona opened it to reveal a sad-looking pair of eyes belonging to a distressed puppy girl.

Darabani, a town high in the north of Botosani County, near the border with Ukraine, is where a friend of Anca lives. Like Anca, this lady takes care of street animals, maintains feeding stations, and cares for orphaned or abandoned animals that would not survive on their own on Romania's streets.

One day in April, Luminita passes by an " unkempt" garbage dump. At first, nothing else catches her eye, but then she hears soft whining. Looking around, Aca's friend found four young puppies among the garbage and plastic bottles.

It was clear, the four furry noses were simply "thrown away" here. These four were probably unwanted offspring that were simply a nuisance and had to be disposed of. How is someone able to be so heartless and horrible as to abandon helpless babies in the middle of nowhere? Knowing that these babies will not survive without help.

Fortunately, they came to Luminita's attention and so these little ones now, have a chance to live. The first days they stayed with Luminita until Anca was able to pick up the puppies.

Update:
All 4 puppies had fought and won. 2 puppies found their families very quickly and were able to leave Romania. Emil had to wait a very long time for his chance, but now he has found the ideal family with dog friend Jaja. Eric also had to wait a very long time until he finally received a foster home offer and found his family from there.

Cristina is a foster mom of Anca and mostly takes care of orphaned puppies. She learned from an acquaintance that there is a family living in the village of Soldanesti who have two chained females. Now, these females have had offspring. One dog with four puppies and the other with eight puppies. But actually, the family does not want any offspring, but they would be so poor that they would not be able to afford a castration of the females. Especially not for both females.

That is how Anca learned about this family. Since the village of Soldanesti is close to their feeding route, Anca visited the family together with Cristina.

The dog with her eight puppies is a very friendly and people-oriented dog. She immediately let Anca to her offspring. The little ones seem healthy and lively, but they are only a few days old, so Anca is able to do little for this family at the moment. Good food, later vaccinating, and then helping to find families for the puppies. Of course, this is only if the family would have the mother dog spayed as soon as her puppies no longer need her. Anca will visit this family at regular intervals to check up on them.

At the end of March, Anca got a call from a young woman. She told her that she had discovered a mother dog with her newborn puppies in a haystack. However, the young woman called from Darabani. A town far to the north of Botosani County.

Winter was not over yet and temperatures kept dropping into the double digits below zero at night. It was extremely dangerous for the newborn puppies because they might freeze to death, even if it was warmer in a haystack than in an old shed or ruin. It took Anca almost 90 minutes to drive to Darabani. But she was about to catch a wild stray to take to her vet for spaying.

Luckily, a friend and helper of hers live in Darabani. So Anca asked Luminita to check on this mother dog and if it was possible, to take her along with her puppies and bring them to safety.

Luminita immediately agreed and went in search of her. And indeed - she found the mama dog with her puppies and took them home. There she and of course the mama will take care of the little ones until they are old enough and are able to move to Anca.

Update:
Unfortunately, the puppies did not survive. But Martha, the mum, found a nice home and was able to leave Romania.

One day - in mid-February - Anca was coming from feeding the pack of street dogs that live near Ion's house when a lady approached her. The lady told her that only a few steps away a street dog had given birth to her puppies in a box. However, the lady would have seen this only a few days ago.

The lady led Anca to the wooden box. In it, there were five puppies, only a few weeks old. There was no trace of their mama. The lady told Anca that the mother dog was shy and would not let herself be touched. The dog would always keep her distance from people but would take care of her puppies.

It was clear, Anca was not able to take the puppies with her. The little furry ones were still too young and still needed to be taken care of. But since the mom was still nursing her puppies, Anca was also unable to anesthetize the dog to keep her and her offspring safe. Thus, Anca could only care for the family and hope that the puppies would survive.  Thus, Anca could only care for the family and hope that the puppies would survive until they were weaned from their mother.

Darabani, a town very high in the north of the Botosani district, is the home of a friend of Anca. Just like Anca, the lady tries to help street animals in her area with feeding stations.

One day at the beginning of this year, this lady received a call from someone who told her that a little bit outside the city, next to the country road, would be home to a small dog. A wooden box would also be placed there and someone else might also feed the dog from time to time.

At this time of year, Romania experiences a harsh winter, with lots of snow and low temperatures of as low as - 20° C at night. Even during the day, the thermometer does not rise into the single-digit minus range. Water freezes over in minutes.

Anca's acquaintance drives to the described place the same day and indeed finds a dog waiting there. The wind is freezing and stormy. On the side of the road, there is really a wooden box. Snowed in, a little food and a frozen pot of water.

Limba, as the dog will be called later, has been living there for a long time. Probably she was abandoned there by her owner. Maybe with this wooden box - or someone else took pity on the dog and put it there for her. Limba is a friendly and people-oriented dog so that Anca's acquaintance did not have a hard time catching her and taking her home.

For the first few days, Limba was allowed to stay with her rescuer and regain her strength.
Now the lovely dog has moved to Anca's "Safe Place" and is waiting there for her chance to find a loving family.

Update:
Limba has found a loving family and could leave Romania forever.

The town of Darabani is situated very high in the north of Botosani County.
In this town lives an acquaintance of Anca. She tries with her few possibilities to help street dogs, to feed them. New Year was bitterly cold and nevertheless, Anca's friend went to put out some food.

In a side street, the young woman saw a small dog leaning against the wall of a house. As she got closer, she realized it was a puppy. Thin and trembling. The little one did not run away. So she was able to grab the puppy girl under her jacket and take her with her. Vasilica, as she called the little one, was freezing.

Since the young woman's resources are very limited, she called Anca and asked for help for the little puppy girl.  Vasilica stayed a few days until Anca was able to pick up the puppy girl.

Now the little girl is being fostered at Anca's and will soon, we hope, be able to find her own family.
